Rick Bukata, M.D.

As the publisher of Emergency Medical Abstracts, Rick has been studying the medical literature as it relates to emergency medicine since 1977. His interests in both the clinical and operational aspects of emergency care (he’s the Medical Director of the San Gabriel Valley Medical Center in Los Angeles) have resulted in his chairing the Advisory Board of ACEP’s newly inaugurated ED Data Institute.

 

 

 

Sue Ieraci, MBBS, FACEM

Sue Ieraci is an Australian-trained emergency physician who lives and works in Sydney Australia. Having previously been a department head and ACEM Vice-President, she now confines herself to clinical and admin work in a smaller suburban teaching hospital, discussing philosophy with patients and staff alike. Her current interests include wider systems issues and the exercise of cognitive skills in EM. She is also passionate about the waste that occurs in health care as a result of both excessive risk-aversion and escalating unrealistic expectations. She aims to practice the philosophy of Minimal Intervention in the Very Elderly, practised together with Being Nice to Old People (without admitting them to hospital).

 

Shari Welch, M.D.

Dr. Welch served as the ED Quality Improvement Director at LDS Hospital for ten years. She has been on the faculty at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and is a regular speaker at ACEP’s Scientific Assembly. She is currently a practicing emergency physician and a researcher at Intermountain Healthcare, focusing on ED operations research. She has written two books, numerous journal articles and a monthly column for the widely read Emergency Medicine News.

In addition, Jeanne was responsible for the development of comparative ED data sets for both VHA and Premier and is a recognized authority on ED benchmarks, data analysis and best practices.

 

 

 

Charles Reese, MD

With special interests in medical informatics, ED operational efficiency and quality assurance, Charles is the Chair of the Emergency Department Benchmarking Alliance. The Alliance is a nonprofit affiliation of over 140 hospitals providing and comparing ED normative data in an effort to improve performance.

Jim Augustine M.D.

Jim Augustine is the Director of Clinical Operations for Emergency Medicine Physicians in Canton, Ohio. Dominic Bagnoli Jr., M.D.

Dr. Bagnoli is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, a Fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians, a Fellow in the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and past President of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is a past member of the Reimbursement Committee for 10 years and was past Chairman of the Political Action Committee of Ohio ACEP and past Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committees. He also served as a Councillor for Ohio from the 1996 National ACEP Convention until 2006, and was on the Board of Directors from 1997-2004.

 

 

David Packo, M.D.

David Packo, MD, FACEP is Co-Founder and President of Emergency Medicine Physicians, and oversees coding and reimbursement, claim submission, appeals, audits, customer service, insurance contracting, credentialing, facility contracting and oversight.

Dr. Packo is Board Certified by American Board of Emergency Medicine, and is a Fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians. He is a member of the National and Ohio Chapters of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He serves on the Reimbursement, and Finance Committees of National ACEP, and previously was a member of the Education and Coding and Nomenclature Committees. He served as the Chair of National ACEP’s Coding and Reimbursement Conferences. He is a member of the Reimbursement and Governmental Affairs Committees of Ohio ACEP, served as a Councillor for Ohio ACEP to National ACEP. He served previously as a Board of Trustee Member of Massillon Community Hospital and on the Hospital Board's Finance and Professional Affairs Committees. He is a member of the AMA and Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA), and served as a member of the Board of the Stark County Medical Society.

Dr. Packo holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Doctorate of Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He performed his internship and residency in emergency medicine at Akron General Medical Center.

 

 

Kevin Klauer, DO

Kevin is the Director of Quality and Clinical Education for Emergency Medicine Physicians, in Canton, Ohio, where he is responsible for the development of quality assurance programs and policies and educational endeavors for over 500 physicians and mid-level providers. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors of the firm’s malpractice insurance company and is an expert at risk management.

 

 

 

Stuart Swadron, MD

Stuart Swadron is currently the emergency medicine residency Program Director at the Los Angeles County / University of Southern California Medical Center. Before emigrating to the United States from Canada he was a rural general practitioner and subsequently has worked in busy emergency departments both here and in Canada before returning to academics. Stuart was named a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2003 and remains on a fast track when it comes to recognition as an emergency medicine educator.

Tom Scaletta, M.D.

 Dr. Scaletta is president of Emergency Excellence (EmEx), a company dedicated to improving performance and recognizing excellence in emergency medicine. He is a practicing, board certified emergency physician with experience leading high-volume emergency departments. Dr. Scaletta is Past President of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) and created the AAEM Operations Management Committee. He has worked with the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and The Joint Commission (TJC) on developing guidelines and standards for hospital emergency care. Dr. Scaletta lectures regularly on the topic of emergency department management.

 

 

William Mallon, MD

Currently the Director of International Emergency Medicine at the Los Angeles County / University of Southern California Medical Center, and formerly its residency Program Director for over 10 years, Billy, has been a major influence in creating one of the highest ranked emergency medicine training programs in the country. His enthusiastic speaking style, combined with his solid knowledge base, has resulted in speaking invitations throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Italy, Iceland, Chile and Japan. Billy was named the Residency Program Director of the Year in 2003 by AAEM and, in addition, has received the Education Award of the California Chapter of ACEP.

Raj Chand, M.D.

Raj Chand is a practicing emergency physician at Inova Fair Oaks
Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.   His research and administrative work
focuses on the role of transformational technologies in the ED,
including EMRs and scribes.  He recently served as the Director of
Informatics for the Inova Fairfax ED, and strategic advisor on EMR
implementation for nine EDs in the Inova Health System.  Dr. Chand
graduated from the Boston University School of Medicine, and completed
Emergency Medicine residency at the George Washington University
