The Mythbuster attends the Scientific Assembly in Boston by Yosef Leibman, MD

It was in the huge exhibition hall at the Scientific Assembly in Boston, where we find Ricky Bukata, son of the famous founder of this blog, arranging an audio visual presentation, when a non descript man walked by, unnoticed by any of the 4000 thousand participants.

Ricky says to his friend "Hey, you know who that is?"

The Friend answered " Dunno- Greg Henry?  Ed Newton? No, it doesn't look like any of those- actually doesn't look like anyone interesting at all"

Ricky walked over to the mysterious man- "Rick Bukata- nice to meet you- are you by any chance the Mythbuster?'

The stranger smiled.  Ricky continued- "How did you get started in all this?

The Mythbuster took a deep breath.  The memories started churning" It was back many years, where I took on the helm of bringing truth justice and the American way to Emergency Medicine"

Ricky thought for a minute "I think I have heard that somewhere before"

The Myuthbuster chuckled "I was only kidding.  But how can forget in 1991 when I wanted to intubate a patient with Midazalom and needed to call the anesthesiologist for permission."

"Really?" Ricky exclaimed.

"1992, I found myself fighting with the pediatrician in a code after a patient was stuck 34 times for venous access to let me try and put in an IO, which I did in the end anyhow, but no one knew what to do with it"

"Gosh" said Ricky

"1994 I gave a prescription for albuterol with instructions not to take it constantly and was soundly berated by the director for giving a prescription with such instructions"

"1994 again, where I incurred the wrath of the surgeons after doing permissive hypotension with AAA rupture while we were waiting for  blood and the surgeons to come in.  I kept the BP at 80, but in came the surgeons and gave 5 liters of fluids immediately and then they couldn't close the abdomen because of the flood they had caused"

"My goodness!" said Ricky

"And who can forget my regular discharge of patients with no end organ damage with high blood pressure in the ED  and my refusal to use sub lingual nifedipine"

"Unbelievable" said Ricky

"But that  is all history now," Said the mythbuster "Now I continue my crusade incognito , and with of course my trusty partner the Dogma Devastator and my Emergency Medicine Update.  But today's  young EPs have to know what once was and how to avoid inertia that can be so dangerous to our patients. "

With that the mythbuster pulled his hat over his eyes and melted into the crowds at the convention.  Ricky never saw him again. 

Ricky asked his friend "did you hear what he said?"

The friend said "who? I didn't see anyone there"

The Mythbuster had vanished but left behind on the ground an article. Ricky  picked it up it was from the AJR July 193:172 2009 about removing all contrast from your ED. He held it firmly to his chest. His Friend said "Looks like you found an Ace that you can keep"

"Somehow, I think I have heard that somewhere in the past" Said Ricky.
